The history of Christianity in Bulgarian area began in the East Rhodopae. In early 5th c AC the bishop Nicketa of Remesiana christenized the Thracians here. It began in the big pagan center of Perpericon. Nowadays the stone altar where this oustanding Christian missionary had preached is exhibited in the Regional Historical Museum in Kurdjali.
